Johanesburg, Jo'berg, Josie

We made it to johannesburg two days ago and have been running since we hit the ground! Our first day we took a bus tour of the city so that we could orient ourselves to the area and understand how to get around on foot as Jo'berg is a busy city with so much to do all the time. We jumped off the bus a few times, but one was the best as their were some school age kids performing traditional Zulu faces on the street corner so we got some impromptu entertainment. By the evening we were at the market Theatre to see a two man play written by Zakes Mda. The play was about political corruption and I think at this point in the trip everyone was able to understand the political commentary. Yesterday was a free day, so in the morning we took taxis to one of my favorite places, Arts on Market. It is an old warehouse that has been turned into an arts space. Food vendors from all over the continent have food for sale on the first floor and all kinds of handmade crafts are available on the second floor, then I believe the students went to the mall before class in the evening. Tomorrow....the Apatheid museum and Constitution Hall.
